Automobile

The following automobile coverages are available. Basic coverages vary slightly due to specific state regulations or requirements governing automobile insurance.

Generally speaking, automobile policies provide the following basic coverages:

Liability Coverage

  • Bodily Injury Liability – provides coverage for legal liability for automobile accidents causing injuries to other drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.
  • Property Damage Liability – provides coverage for legal liability for automobile accidents that damage property of others.
  • Medical Payment - provides necessary medical and funeral services expenses for you and others injured in an automobile accident involving a covered auto, regardless of who is at fault.
  • Personal Injury Protection – (Coverage is regulated by state insurance statutes) – provides medical and hospital expenses, income continuation expenses, and loss of services expenses for you and others injured in an automobile accident involving a covered auto, regardless of who is at fault.
  • Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Protection – protects you, a family member, or anyone riding in a covered automobile for bodily injury caused by an owner of an uninsured, underinsured, or hit-and-run vehicle.

Coverage For Damage To Your Car

  • Comprehensive Coverage (other than collision coverage) – Loss caused by any of the following are considered other than collision losses:
    • Breakage of glass
    • Contact with a bird or animal
    • Explosion or earthquake
    • Fire
    • Hail, water, or flood
    • Malicious mischief or vandalism
    • Missiles or falling objects
    • Riot or civil commotion
    • Theft or larceny
    • Windstorm

  • Collision Coverage – Loss caused by the upset of a covered auto or their impact with another vehicle or object. The following are examples of collision losses:
    • An auto is hit by another vehicle.
    • An auto runs off the road and hits a tree.
    • A car door is damaged in a parking lot when it hits a vehicle parked next to it.
    • An owner parks the auto on a hillside while shopping; the vehicle's brake disengages and the vehicle rolls into a ditch.

Note: This is a summary of available automobile coverages and is not intended to represent or substitute for policy conditions. The policy alone determines the scope of the coverage provided. Always read your policy carefully and, if you have any questions about your coverage, contact your agent.
